Linux Wallet for PACcoin
This is our official installation guide
Enable virtualization support on your system – it usually is not turned on by default. This will allow you to run a 64-bit version of PACcoin virtually.
After download then Install virtual box.
Download this version of Ubuntu16.04 here:
You will need 7zip decompression program here to uncompress:
Decompress the virtual machine that you downloaded and this will be the drive you add to your machine when you configure it.
- Now click on NEW virtual machine after starting VirtualBox and
- Choose as much memory as you can – at least 2048
Now start the virtual machine and it should load and give you a login screen. Type osboxes.org for the root password.
You will want to click in the top left corner and get a terminal window and type: sudo su – and then enter osboxes.org to get a root prompt.
Now you are ready to clone the “git” source and compile a headless PacCoin node.
sudo apt-get install build-essential libssl-dev libboost-all-dev libminiupnpc-dev
sudo apt-get install libqrencode-dev qt4-dev-tools qt4-qmake libqt4-dev git
sudo apt-get install libdb++-dev
git clone https://github.com/PaccoinCommunity/Paccoin.git paccoin
This will create a directory called “paccoin” and copy the files into it.
make -f makefile.unix
This will generate the headless paccoind file. (rpc commands can be made from the terminal ie. “./paccoind help”)
Run this by using the following command
The file should end and state that an rpcuser and rpcpassword needs to be added. By running this you have now created a hidden directory located at ~/.paccoin.
- Enter that directory.
Using a text editor create your file paccoin.conf and change the rpcuser and rpcpassword for security reasons cut and paste the contents from here:
Save this file.
- Now you’re ready to compile and run your wallet.
You should see the file paccoin-qt which you can execute by double clicking on it in file manager. This is your wallet GUI
This will allow the UI to run in the foreground if you close the terminal window. Enjoy your Linux PacCoin wallet!
It is also recommended that you change the passphrase to something you can remember. If you lose your passphrase there is no way to get it back and you will lose any money in your wallet, so be careful.
Here are some common questions we get about the PACcoin Wallet
Go to your Applications folder, search for the Paccoin icon, right click on it and then click on open, a warning message will appear just click again open and then enjoy!
This is because your antivirus is thinking that PacCoin wallet is a virus, go ahead and deactivate antivirus or add an exclusion for the app or whole folder.
1. Go to https://github.com/PaccoinCommunity/Paccoin
2. Follow the instructions to compile the wallet.
If you have an older version of the wallet it might be out of date from the current blockchain, in such case please download the latest wallet for your operating system or get the latest blockchain files.
Network is important part on syncing the wallet, please make sure your have good internet connection and there are active connections to PacCoin network (mouseover on the “signal” icon in order to see connections).
Another reason of slowness if that you are behind a firewall. If you only see 8 connections at any given time, it means that you are behind a firewall, in order to connect to more peers you need to open port 8112 on your firewall.
There are two ways but first make sure you have active connections by doing mouseover on the signal icon.
Go to the bottom of the wallet and mouse over on the left corner, you should see a pop up which provides the information (verify you are downloading blocks and that is progressing). Another way to retrieve this information is on the helpmenu:
Helpmenu -> Debug Window -> Information.
Paccoin app has an export feature, but not an import feature, importing a wallet is a simple manual process on which first you need to localize your Paccoin app folder:
Windows: C:\Program Files (x86)\Paccoin
MacOsX: ~/Library/Application Support/
Once you find your folder, locate the wallet.dat, backup that file and replace it with your own backup, always make sure that the wallet is not running when restoring a backup of your wallet.dat.
It’s important to make a copy of your wallet and of your private keys. In order to backup your wallet you just need to go to File -> Back Up Wallet and the save your file in a USB or offline source to keep it safe. As for your private keys a recommendation is to write them down and store it in a secure source.
Tip: Keep your coins on your wallet always not in exchange.
Go to the Help menu and then select “Debug Window”, once you are there go to the Console tab.
● backupwallet – Copy your wallet in the destination you want, no matter if it’s encrypted.
● getinfo – Shows general info about your wallet, version, balance, ip, blocks…
● walletpassphrase – Unlock your wallet if it’s encrypted so you can start using/staking. For timeout you can set 9999999 to ensure the wallet will be unlocked for a long time.
Make sure that your firewall is not blocking any connections of the paccoin wallet, and make sure that you have the p2p port (8112) open in your firewall and Internet modem.
wallet.dat needs to be on the correct folder, Example for mac:
It’s easy as a 123, you just need to go to the Settings menu, select “Encrypt Wallet” and then provide a secure password.
Go to Help > Open Debug Window and there type:
walletpassphrase “your-password” 9999999 true
Please notice that your password is the one you created when the wallet was encrypted.
No, that’s not necessary.
FAQ for mining
Here are some common questions we get about mining PACcoin
You can mine with either alone or in a pool. There no pools at the moment to join as it does not worth the server energy and efforts at the moment. The coins per block is only 500 so we don’t recommend mining the current PAC.
Mining is not worth the energy buying some and staking is much better, the coin is designed to be ASIC mining resistant.
